About Numerology

What is numerology?

Numerology is the art of defining a person's personality and forecasting their future by analyzing their name and date of birth.

Numerology can provide insights into your personality and nature, and into the influences in your life and relationships,

Numerology is also frequently used in businesses to help develop business and product names.

To quote Hans Decoz, a noted author on numerology.

The science of numerology comes natural to us.

It is impossible to talk about patterns in life without symbols, and numerology is a language of symbols—the symbolism of numbers. Symbols serve to draw upon themselves the vast amount of knowledge that exists in the archetypal world. Archetypes are unique bundles of information, stored in the psyche until we have the means to attract their wealth into our lives. They convey knowledge of things that we previously did not know, or were not conscious of.

The beauty of the use of numbers—as we do in numerology—and human characteristics is that they are naturally and inherently joined. There is nothing arbitrary about joining the number 1 with originality or inventiveness, because 1, no matter what language the number is used in, means the beginning, the origin, the first, the birth. Similarly, you will find that in numerology all single digit numbers have a meaning that relates easily to our perspective of the rhythm of things. They just make sense!

Within numerology, numbers reflect specific characteristics, aptitudes and character tendencies that are part of the spiritual plan. Every letter has an associated number, and each number has a related vibration. The sum of the numbers in your birth date and the sum of numbers derived from the letters in your name provides an interrelation of vibrations. These numbers show a great deal about your character, your purpose in life, what motivates you, and where your talents may lie, along with a whole host of additional information about your life, where you’re going and where your life can take you.

Experts in numerology can use these numbers to determine the best time for major moves and activities in your life. They also frequently help in the selection of names for children.

Occasionally you will see the words numberology, numerologia, and cupido in relation to numerology. Numberology is a common misspelling of the word numerology. Numerologia is Latin for numerology. And Cupido is Latin for Cupid. If you enter Cupid in search engines it will also bring results for horoscopes and numerology.

What Numerology isn’t.

Numerology is not an exact science. It is one that is based on some 5,000 years of experience and research, but human beings are incredibly complex and numerology is no more than an attempt to identify and label some of the more visible aspects. There are countless variables that are too subtle and too hidden to be recognized. Therefore, it is simply not possible for a numerologist to be right 100 percent of the time.

History of Numerology

Pythagoras, the Greek mathematician who lived from 569-470 B.C., is said by many to be the originator of much of what we call numerology today. The actual origins of numerology predate Pythagoras, the most popular being the very old Hebrew Kabbala. In the twentieth century, the old science seems to magically reappear in the form of a series of books published from 1911-1917 by L. Dow Balliett and it was helped along in the 30s by Florence Campbell, and within the next few decades a wealth of literature was available to the public. Indeed, if you look at the past 90 years, it would seem that the science has moved very rapidly. But perhaps all of this was known at a much earlier time, and it was just hiding from us for a while.
